1 | medium head lettuce, shredded | ||

1/2 | cup | green bell pepper, chopped | |
|
|||
1/2 | cup | red bell pepper, chopped | |
|
|||
1/2 | cup | green onion, chopped | |
|
|||
1/2 | cup | celery, chopped | |
|
|||
1 | package | (10 ounce) frozen green peas, partially thawed and uncooked | |
|
|||
1 | cup | mayonnaise | |
|
|||
3 | Tablespoons | granulated sugar | |
|
|||
2 | cups | shredded cheddar cheese | |
|
|||
Cooked, crumbled bacon or bacon bits, if desired | |||
|
In a clear glass or trifle bowl, add ingredients in layers as follows:
1. lettuce
2. green and red pepper
3. green onion
4. celery
5. peas
6. Stir together mayonnaise and sugar. Dot over salad and spread carefully over top to cover.
7. Top with grated cheese and bacon bits (optional).
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

“This is a classic and has gone to many potlucks! You can add any layer you like according to your families preferences. Use reduced fat mayo or try a layer of yogurt sweetened with a little honey. Add some flavorings to create a ranch type dressing. The possibilities are endless but it is always fresh, crisp and inviting. ”
